“Miss Go” may sound bossy, but it’s actually a term of endearment used by some friends, colleagues, and an aunt for journalist Miriam Grace A. Go.
Okay, so it’s also what they exclaim, at the end of their approving laughs, when she makes irreverent comments, weaves conspiracy theories, delivers news that’s juicier than coffee shop talk, or simply gives them a what’s-wrong-with-you look.
Miss Go manages an online magazine in the Philippines for a group of investigative journalists who are taking themselves too seriously, she often has to shoo them away to get some life.
For her official coverage, she does mostly politics, campaigns and elections, and local governance. For her blog, she will write about the lighter stuff. At least she’ll try.
Her blog’s slogan was inspired by the “Off Duty” column that her magazine used to run in its print edition. The idea for the column was for the editorial staff to write about how they do their work or what happens behind the news. And she thought, then it’s not going off duty.
Miss Go’s intent is to comment, with a journalist’s eye, on everything else that’s relevant to a Filipino’s sanity and survival. After all, as far as she knows, she doesn’t leave curiosity, skepticism, and common sense in the newsroom.
